Commitment to Diversity

Weir Student Media is committed to providing diversity in all aspects. All of our content is published online and free so that it is accessible to students, faculty, and community members. This year, we started passing out physical copies of the newspaper to all interested students for free.

Weir Senior Citizens is a podcast I am co-directing this year. My classmate, Emily, and I came up with an idea to share comical conversations with members of the senior class. We invited anyone willing to participate to join in on the conversation. In future episodes, I intend to send out a form to ensure that all students are represented.
My article on how block schedules affect electives speaks to the need for more diverse classes to accommodate diverse learners. Increasing the number of electives benefits a diverse student body with different interests.
My article on the 2020 Olympics draws attention to the interdisciplinary study of environmentalism and diversity.

This year, Weir Student Media participated in Disability Week by explaining the impact of different disabilities. We ran a different topic about disabilities each day and included teachers and students who are neurodivergent.

Something new our staff added this year is a suggestion box on the WSM website. Allowing contributions from anyone ensures that our content is equitable and represents the opinions of all students.
