Broadcast Journalism

My Journey as the WSM Announcements Director and PSA Executive Director

One of my biggest strengths in journalism is through broadcast. Journalism is changing, and the importance of video journalism is steadily increasing. Videos tell stories that are not possible through print. This year, I can share my passion for broadcast journalism with others as the Weir Student Media announcement director and the PSA executive director.

Video Announcements

These examples demonstrate how I have improved just this year in broadcast journalism. In the first video, I was starting to get the hang of being a news anchor. In the most recent video, I am significantly more comfortable in front of the camera, and I edited the episode.

The senior video produced by the seniors in Weir Student Media heavily relies on footage taken throughout the year. This includes footage from sporting events (footage below from our undefeated bowling team) and special moments (photo on the left is me recording footage from the homecoming pep rally game). We also use this footage for feature videos and morning announcements to highlight student achievement.

Public Service Announcements

Public service announcements spread awareness about messages that matter. The Dangers of Vaping PSA warns teens of the medical side effects, school punishments, and opinions from other students about vaping. In this project, I co-directed and fully edited the video.

It's Not Worth It is an anti-drinking PSA that highlights students facing the realistic consequences of drinking such as legal consequences, alcohol poisoning, and death. This project was submitted to the West Virginia No School Spirits contest.
